week 1 forum

Hi, i'm Shiranne and currently enrolled at LBCC. Currently i'm majoring in journalism, and since I love photography as well as writing I decided to take a photojournalism class. I have a limited experience in photography, my mother had her own nature photography business for a little while, and that's the extent of my experience so far.
 My goals are to do well in my classes here at LBCC, as well as deciding whether or not if this is the right career path for me. The goals for specifically my photojournalism class is to have, besides good grades, is to get better at taking photos that relate to my current career path and see if photojournalism is the specific part that I want to focus in. 
Some good photos around LBCC are those that really interest the current students here on campus. Like sports events, plays, club gatherings, and music events. Mainly photos of events that would be of an interest to the students on campus.
LBCC- Hot Shot Cafe: music, poetry readings, book readings.
             Sports events
             Clubs and activities around campus
             New works art exhibits.

One thing that stood out to me about Karl Maasdams presentation was that he continued to always get the picture by shooting at different angles and what he called the hail Mary, where he lifted the camera above his head trying to get the right picture. As well as how he continuously places cameras at different spots a head of time and scopes out the area to get an idea on what he wanted for the background as well as get a feel for the place. I can use these suggestions by trying to get different angles and to try to understand the environment where I will be shooting better. This way I could get  a picture easier since I will be able to place myself in the right spot for the photograph.     I might shoot the upcoming mens basketball game or a couple of people that I know that like to work out at the gym by lifting weights. Lynsey Addario Book Report Assignment

In Lynsey Addario’s book It’s What I Do, tells hers experience as a woman entering a man’s world of photojournalism. Because of this she has had to work hard in her photography, yet one of the things that makes her photography so great is she truly tries to connect with the people she is photographing so the story that comes through her pictures can impact the reader more than it might have originally. I can understand her sense of drive and duty towards photographing war-zones mainly because she is driven with the need to photograph people’s lives in these situations and tell their stories. While I understand it, I think you have to have extreme amounts of courage to even think about going into a war zone to begin with let alone do it to gather pictures of complete strangers. Kay'Sun is celebrating his second birthday with his friend and family in Mount Vernon Oregon. Kay'Sun's mom Ka'Lene loves to call his friend his "girlfriend." Kay'Sun was excited for his birthday mainly because he got a lot of stuffed animals and cool toys. Currently he is learning american sign language and will soon be a big brother.
